Setting up the PKG Monitor App requires careful preparation to ensure reliable operation in a clinical setting. Before beginning, you must verify that the dedicated smartphone is compatible and properly configured.
Clinic staff or patients can check device compatibility in advance to ensure smooth integration with the PKG Monitor system. Detailed instructions for checking compatibility can be found in this article: Phone compatibility for PKG Monitor App.
Once compatibility is confirmed, a few additional configuration steps may be necessary depending on the smartphone’s operating system to ensure optimal performance of the PKG Monitor App.
- Make sure to have an iOS version 18 or higher on your smartphone (if needed, you can check your iOS version and how to upgrade it).
- Automatically set your phone's date and time. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time > Turn ON 'Set Automatically'.
- Check that you don't have any battery-saving feature active: they might kill the Bluetooth connection in the background by trying to save battery, impacting the PKG Monitor functionalities.

- Make sure to have an Android version 13, or higher on your smartphone and that the device supports Bluetooth® 5.0 or higher and is 2M PHY-compatible* (check your Android version and how to upgrade it).
- Automatically set your phone's date and time (these settings can vary depending on the phone model). Go to your device's Clock app > More > Settings.
- To automatically update the time: Tap Change date & time > Set time automatically.
- To set a time zone automatically: Tap Change date & time > Time Zone > Turn ON 'Set automatically'.

Configure the phone settings to disable any power-saving features that may affect the PKG Monitor App from functioning correctly (these settings can vary depending on the phone model):
Depending on the phone model you have: go to Settings > Apps > PKG Monitor App (App info) > Battery > choose 'Unrestricted', or go to Settings > Apps > PKG Monitor App (App info) > Battery usage > enable 'Allow Background Activity'

Disable any battery optimization features from the phone’s settings.
Go to Settings > Battery > toggle OFF any power-saving features or modes

Lock or pin the PKG Monitor App in your 'Recent apps'
Find Recent Apps at the bottom of your phone screen, on the left-hand side
Go to Recent apps > PKG Monitor App > Lock app (padlock icon) or ‘Pin this app’ or ‘Keep open’

Disable any ‘deep sleeping’, ‘sleeping’, ‘doze’ modes, or similar features on the phone.
Depending on the phone model you have: go to Settings > Battery > Background usage limits > remove PKG Monitor App from ‘Sleeping apps’, or
go to Settings > Battery > top-right 3 dots > Battery Optimization > All Apps > find PKG Monitor App > select 'Don't Optimize
*Bluetooth 2M PHY is a faster type of Bluetooth connection, capable of transferring data at a quicker speed. Not all phones have this: make sure to check our compatibility article to know if your smartphone is equipped with it.
